A dog died in a caravan fire - an investigation has now been launched

A dog has died after a caravan caught fire.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at Whitworth Quarry, near Rochdale, just before 10am on Monday.

Four fire engines attended the scene at High Barn Lane where they found the static vehicle with propane cylinders inside, LancsLive report.

Crews used two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

Fire officers later confirmed a dog died in the blaze.

No human injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is now being investigated.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 9.56am to High Barn Lane, Whitworth, to a static caravan.

"Four fire engines attended with reported propane cylinders inside the caravan itself.

"Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a lance to extinguish the fire. The fire is under control and we remain at the scene damping down.

"There were no human injuries. 

"Unfortunately, one dog was killed in the fire. The cause of the fire is now under investigation."
