A dog ate £160 in twenties (and then his owner had to pay the vet another £130 to get it out)

A pet dog ate £160 of its owners cash when someone posted the money through their front door.

The cash, along with a money bag and clip, were devoured by nine-year-old labradoodle Ozzy before his owners could stop him.

Ozzy’s owner Judith Wright, from the Llandudno area, said: “Someone had owed us money and popped it through the letter box for us, that's how Ozzy got hold of it.”

According to North Wales Live the cash was in £20 notes and his owners had to pay a vet's bill of around £130 to induce vomiting to get Ozzy to cough up.

A spokesman for Murphy & Co Veterinary Practice - where Ozzy was taken - said that, depending on the breed of dog, owners can expect to pay around £130 to induce vomiting in a dog.

She added the veterinary practice, in Llandudno, sees dogs who have eaten plenty of things they shouldn’t have, including toilet items and socks, but they had never seen a dog eat money before.

As well as the cash, the vet managed to retrieve a plastic money bag and a circular money clip, along with a few bits of carrot.

The Wrights said Ozzy is well following the incident but seems to be feeling sorry for himself.

Mrs Wright's husband Neil said between the money that Ozzy ate and the vet fees, the escapade had cost them a stomach-turning £294.

He added that they may be able to reclaim £80 from the Bank of England, and would be looking at fitting a cage on their letter box to avoid this happening in the future.
