A doctor had the wheels stolen from his bike while he worked in A&E - but then something amazing happened

A doctor whose bicycle wheels were stolen from outside a hospital while he was working is back on the road just hours later- after an incredible outpouring of support.

Jack Ingham discovered the theft when he was leaving Manchester Royal Infirmary on Thursday morning, after spending a busy night shift in accident and emergency.

He had left his bicycle in a staff bike store on the site, but overnight someone cut the lock and stole both wheels, leaving just the frame behind.

Jack only told his partner, parents and sisters about what had happened, before he had to go to sleep, ahead of his next shift tonight.

So he was stunned when just hours later he woke to a knock at the door - and was handed two new wheels, tyres and a lock for his bike.

Jack discovered that while he was sleeping, his family had rallied round to mobilise support for him.

They got in touch with the Chorlton team at the charity Cyclists Fighting Cancer, who contacted Ribble Cycles and arranged for replacements for Jack, before delivering them to his door in Salford earlier today.

In the meantime, Jack's sister Becky set up a fundraising page to buy Jack a new bike, which raised more than £600 in just a few hours.

Now Jack has rebuilt his bike ahead of his night shift  and all the money raised is being donated to Cyclists Fighting Cancer instead.

The charity helps children and young people living with cancer regain their physical fitness, strength, mental wellness and confidence by giving them new bikes.

Jack, who is due to celebrate his 26th birthday later this month, says he has been overwhelmed by the support he has received.

He said: "It's really overwhelming, the response has been beautiful really.

"I went to bed and woke up eight hours later, and this had all been achieved in no time at all.

"People doing bad things makes lots of noise - but then there's this. My faith has been restored".
