A distraught mum rang police when her son's birthday presents were stolen from her car...police officers did something amazing

Kind-hearted bobbies made sure a little boy's birthday wasn't ruined after his presents were stolen from his mother's car.

The distraught mum rang police after thieves broke into her car and stole gifts she'd been storing in the vehicle ahead of her son's birthday the next day.

A GMP call handler who took the mum's report wanted to do something extra to help.

Police officers had a whip-round and managed to raise £150 within 10 minutes; enough to buy replacement presents, a cake and birthday card from a nearby supermarket.

Two officers then surprised the mum and son when they delivered the presents on his birthday the next day.

A photograph shared by GMP on social media shows the beaming little boy and his mum with the replacement gifts.

The post, shared on the GMP Fallowfield, Withington, Levenshulme and Burnage Facebook page, said: "After a disappointing start to his birthday, he ended it with a smile.

"Often reports are taken, allocated and call handlers don’t hear about the outcome or the next stages of each call they take, but luckily this story had a nice ending and everyone was able to see the delight in the boy’s face from the pictures taken."

People were full of praise for the big-hearted police officers on Facebook.

Martin Conway said: "Happy birthday dude. GMP putting the faith back in the community well done credit where credit is due."

Steven Hughes added: "Nice happy story in these sad times, well done gmp."
