A disgusting mound of rubbish has been dumped at a Swansea beauty spot and the council can't pick it up

Someone has dumped bags of rubbish and household waste at a popular Swansea beauty spot.

The mess was found on one of the lanes at the base of Gellionnen Mountain, near Craig-cefn-parc on Thursday morning.

It included a a bath, building rubble as well as pieces of wood.

Geraint Turner, from Swansea, who discovered the mound of rubbish described it as "utterly disgusting".

He added: "It's ridiculous how much this is happening now."

Gellionnen Mountain is popular with walkers and the waste was dumped close to the RSPB Cwm Clydach nature reserve which is home to many different types of birds.

Some of the bags had been tipped at the side of the road, while the second pile was dumped down the bank.

Because it has been left on private land, it becomes the landowners responsibility to dispose of the rubbish or face a fine.

In February this year, environmental health officers were called to the Gellionnen mountainside to remove a there.

Swansea Council said littering and fly-tipping in Swansea costs more than £2m to clean up every year.

A spokesman said:  "Fly tipping is totally unnecessary - and illegal.

“If residents use private disposal companies, they should ask for the company's waste carriers licence and for confirmation that the waste is being taken to a licensed facility."

“We will work in partnership with relevant land owners to get the waste investigated and removed as soon as operationally possible.

“And where possible we take robust enforcement action against individuals who persist in blighting local communities with this anti-social and illegal activity."
