A devastated Aaron Rodgers on the Packers’ late FG: ‘It wasn’t my decision’

The Green Bay Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur will face a long offseason of questioning the decision to kick a 26-yard field goal while trailing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by eight points in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.

The absurd choice resulted in the Buccaneers running out the clock and locking up a trip to Super Bowl LV. But while the NFL world was quick to pile on the decision, Aaron Rodgers wasn’t rushing to throw his head coach under the bus.

He just wasn’t exactly looking to endorse the call either.

Rodgers was asked after the game if he agreed with the decision, but said that it wasn’t his call.

Rodgers said:

“It wasn’t my decision. But I understand the thinking — above two minutes with all of our timeouts. But yeah, it wasn’t my decision.”

That’s about as good of an answer as LaFleur could have hoped for from Rodgers because the decision was stunningly bad. It was impossible to justify.
