A Derry Girls book is being released this autumn

While filming for the third season of Channel 4’s hit series Derry Girls may still be on hold thanks to the ongoing pandemic, show creator Lisa McGee has written a Derry Girls book set for release this November.

Saoirse Monica Jackson, who plays Erin Quinn the hit show, which follows a group of teenagers in Northern Ireland during The Troubles, revealed in a YouTube video that the book is called ‘Erin’s Diary’ and charts the inner monologue of the hilarious show lead.

Erin’s Diary will be a ‘in world’ publication that dives deeper into what viewers have already seen in the first and second series but will also include several new stories and reveal previously unknown details about the characters.

The ‘diary’ will include doodles, poetry, newspaper clippings, school reports and notes from Erin’s friends on the show.

A synopsis for the book reads: “Erin has troubles of her own, like the fact that the boy she’s in love with (actually in LOVE with) doesn’t know she exists. Or that her Ma and Aunt Sarah make her include her weirdo cousin Orla in everything she does. Or that head teacher Sister Michael refuses to acknowledge Erin as a literary genius. Not to mention the fact that her second best friend has ALMOST had sex, whereas Erin’s never even kissed anyone yet. These are Erin’s Troubles.”

McGee added in a statement: “I’m thrilled to be able to share our first ever official Derry Girls Book with the world. Erin’s Diary was such a joy to write. I loved spending time with these characters again.

“The book will reveal some new information about old events as well as some brand new antics from Erin and the gang – hopefully it will keep fans laughing until series three hits the screen.”

The book is set for release on November 12, and will cost £16.99. You can pre-order it here.
