A delivery of a different kind for Wishaw midwife and mum-of-two Anne who is always helping others

Anne Dexter has been ensuring deliveries go as smoothly as they can at University Hospital Wishaw.

The midwife was taken aback by a different kind of delivery when we turned up at her front door in Netherton with a bouquet of flowers.

The mum-of-two works as a midwife at the hospital’s maternity unit and on top of that is chairperson of Orchard Primary school’s Language and Community Support Centre (LCSC) group.

To thank Anne, right, for all of her sterling work at the hospital, and in the local community for the school support group, Laura Watt nominated her for our Say it with Flowers competition on behalf of the support group and parents.

“She’s organised two separate grants for all the kids at Orchard with an autism diagnosis,” said Laura. “The first was worth £100 to every child and allowed their parents to buy something to put a smile on their faces. She has now set up another grant scheme to claim a voucher or item to be purchased to help families during this difficult time.

“All kids are fed-up during this but especially so kids with disabilities who don’t really understand what’s going on.

“During these times she has really thought about the kids, and the parents, at Orchard and made sure they are happy.

“She’s a mother-of-two herself, her older son is at uni and the younger one is starting high school.

“It’s hard enough in these times looking after your own house, she’s doing remarkably well.

“She has gone above and beyond for all the children at Orchard and we thought this would be a lovely surprise for her, and a token to show how many people appreciate her efforts.”

We were able to surprise Anne at her home in Netherton with a bouquet of flowers thanks to our friends at Pixie’s Petals in Newmains.

The Wishaw Press recently re-launched our Say it with Flowers competition. Details are at the top right hand side of this page if you would like to nominate someone special.
