The Debt Collector, an intense Thai action thriller that pulls audiences deep into a grey world — rawer, wilder and more explosive than ever — alongside one burning question: can a person ever truly repay the debts of their past?

Directed by Surapong Ploensang and produced by Nalina Chayasombat for Jungka Studio, The Debt Collector was inspired by the realities of illegal lending, loan sharks and the violence surrounding debt collection. Creators took all that rawness, brutality, and injustice and wove it into one unhinged action ride — where blistering fight sequences collide head-on with emotional weight and moral choices that have no clean answers.
At the centre of the story is Num, played by Nadech, a former debt collector burdened by his past sins. After prison and a terminal illness leave him with little time remaining, he resolves to leave the darkness behind and live out his final days in peace. But when he becomes entangled in another act of brutality, violence reopens his old wounds and reignites a rage. He is forced back into a world he hoped never to see again — to the final fight for “debt of life” redemption.
For Nadech, the role marks one of the biggest creative challenges of his career, stepping into the skin of a broken man scarred inside and out. To become Num, he underwent a significant physical transformation, from shedding weight to look gaunt, adding tattoos, scars and weathering his skin to paint the picture of someone whose life has been beaten down to nothing. Not a conventional hero, but someone trapped in a cycle of deep emotional complexity from fighting his past, for his own life and a guilt that chases him like a shadow he can never shake.
“Another interesting aspect of the character, which I don’t usually play, is the character’s depth, the way he expresses his feelings and emotions,” says Nadech. “I’m someone who, when I act or feel something, I express it a lot through my facial muscles or body language. But in this project, I had to swallow all those feelings.”
Standing opposite him is Daou as Po, the volatile son of a powerful loan shark whose hunger for power and recognition pushes him toward increasingly dangerous choices. “It was different from simply playing a typical leading man or being in a romance story. I was excited for this role transformation and wanted to see whether I could truly bring this character to life and make audiences believe it. If people end up hating the character, I would actually consider that a success.”
The convergence of Nadech and Daou creates an unexpected dynamic between two powerhouse actors who have each past their own boundaries, unveiling a raw, intense and wholly unexpected dimension of their craft in what stands as one of the most defining performances of both of their careers. Placing both in unfamiliar territory and allowing them to reveal entirely new sides of themselves on screen.
The film builds toward a clash between two men shaped by the same system, but pushed by fate down very different paths until it all explodes into a clash where neither is willing to back down. The Debt Collector reflects "debt" in all its many forms that most of us carry. It is a story about people trying to move forward despite the mistakes, scars and consequences that continue to follow them on the day they thought everything was all finally over.
