Ohio State football coach Ryan Day is 11-0 in his tenure as the Buckeyes’ head coach, including a perfect 3-0 when filling in for the legendary Urban Meyer.
Though Day has big shoes to fill on the recruiting trail and the gridiron, he still enjoys time with family and friends like everyone else, when possible.
You know his daily habits while at Ohio State, which include running practice, watching film, recruiting, and leading over 100 athletes through battle each Saturday. However, you probably don’t know much about his personal life off the field.

We at Buckeyes Wire are here to dive deeper and bring you that extra connection to the man in charge of your favorite football team. Below, we discuss everything from Day’s favorite offseason hobbies, to what he likes to do after a Buckeyes win.
Let’s start off with the question everyone wants to know.
What is Day’s favorite win so far as a Buckeye?
“I would say the rivalry game last year (Michigan) or the two Penn State games, the last two years.”
Ohio State came from behind to defeat the Nittany Lions in consecutive seasons, en route to back-to-back Big Ten Championships, while also extending its win streak over TTUN.
Aside from the Rose Bowl or Ohio Stadium, what is the head honcho’s favorite place to coach at?
“I would have to say Blacksburg, up at Virginia Tech, that was always pretty cool.”
After a big win, Day usually keeps it on the down-low, without much activity after games or any added fanfare.
“We usually get everybody out of the parking lot, and go home and go relax, watch some TV and hang out and that’s it.”
In the little offseason that there is, Day and his family like to travel, while enjoying a couple vacations to their favorite destinations.
“As a football coach, you do two things. You coach and you have family. There’s really no time for much else, but when there is, we like to travel to see different parts of the country.”
Day did not have one specific vacation spot in mind, but mentioned going home to New Hampshire and visiting Jackson Hole, Wyoming as two of his favorite trips with family.
“We either go to New Hampshire in the summers, or last year, we went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and did some skiing and snowmobiling out there, which was really cool.”
As calm and collected as the Buckeyes’ head coach is in the offseason, he still seems to be pretty relaxed in Columbus, with Ohio State sitting at 8-0 entering the final stretch of the regular season.
After speculation of a drop-off this season and on-going ‘down-year’ rumors from the press, the Buckeyes look better than anyone entering November, with everything left to play for.
Time will tell if Day can lead his team to a fairytale ending, similar to that of Meyer in 2012, when the team was banned from postseason contention, but still finished undefeated.
However, it’s on to Maryland now, with four games remaining on the regular season slate for Ohio State.
