A day in the life: fitness coach Monique Eastwood

The past few days have not been my usual “day in the life”. I went to the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 as I’m Annie’s [Anne Hathaway], Emily’s [Emily Blunt] and Stan’s [Stanley Tucci] trainer. Having them all in one film together has been such a pleasure. Then, the next night, I went to the premiere of Mother Mary [starring Hathaway].

When Greta [Gerwig] was filming Narnia, she would start training at 7.15am, so I would probably get up at 7am — I’m a last-minute person. We’d train until 8am then I’d have a cup of rooibos tea and a piece of toast with goat’s cheese or something on it.

I see Rachel Weisz three times a week. Her training for The Mummy will probably get more intense

I don’t do caffeine before my session on the Eastwood Fit app, otherwise I’m too wired. I have such a lovely community of people in their thirties, forties, fifties and sixties on there. We’ll do a 30- or 40-minute session of ballet-inspired or strength and technique training. It’s jolly exhausting.

Then I go straight into an app session with Felicity [Blunt] and Stan, for around half an hour to an hour. They’ll do either an HIIT, strength or ballet-inspired class and then we’ll do reformer Pilates. They finish at 10.

Then I go straight into training Rachel [Weisz]. I see her three times a week and see what she needs that day. We do a bit of everything — strength, ballet-inspired, stretch. Now that she’s training for The Mummy, it will probably get more intense.

After that, I’m starving and desperate for a coffee, so I have a break at 11 to have my coffee and an egg on toast or salmon and sauerkraut on toast.

If Annie is filming, she’ll see me at 11.30am English time. That’s 6.30am in America, so it’s pre her leaving the house and doing her whole day.

Then at 12.30 I escape my house and do a power walk to get away from the screen and into the fresh air. I live near the water in a beautiful place in West Sussex.

I have some lunch that I can easily digest, a protein and a carbohydrate — just something that’s going to keep me going for the afternoon.

Then I’ll see Emily and John [Krasinski] at 2pm my time, 9am theirs. Then I try to fit in my lovely local clients, who I’ve been teaching for the past 30 years. They put up with my mad diary and I train them in my studio up the road from my house.

Once my work is done, I might go for a long walk and sauna at a nearby beach. I might even jump in the sea briefly but I’m not really a cold water girl.

Then I’ll come home and chill, drink wine and relax. I prefer red wine but can’t drink much these days — talk to any menopausal woman around my age [59] and they’ll tell you we can’t drink much.

Then I’ll cook a nice meal. I’m a Mediterranean girl but also love making curries. I tend to eat vegetarian or fish during the week, but don’t really say no to any food group. People think I don’t eat carbs but I do — I just burn them as a very busy, active person.

I tend not to go out in the evenings during the week because I don’t feel ready for the day ahead if I’ve gone out. It’s all about managing your time and knowing when to say no, which I didn’t used to be very good at doing.

Stay disciplined with yourself. Maybe I am a little bit too disciplined, but stay consistent. Nourish your body and nurture it — insure it for the future. We insure our homes and cars, but we should do the same for our bodies.
