A day for the defences - Bristol City player ratings after goalless draw with Swansea City

Dan Bentley - 8

Kicking options were reduced forcing him to kick long many times but good saves in between, particularly from Grimes' free-kick and when he brilliantly denied Ayew in the middle of the second period.

Jack Hunt - 7

Several good passes to set up chances - such as the chip over the Swans defence to release Diedhiou in the first half - and his defending was sound too, seeing off Celina. Solid shift.

Nathan Baker - 6

Early bath for the central defender who went off with a possible knock after half an hour, although it may have been a tactical move. Either way, City were much better afterwards with Diedhiou on the pitch,.

Ashley Williams - 8

Read the play well and built on last week's debut display, helping to neutralise Baston throughout. In fact the Spaniard didn't get a shot in the entire game. Also showed some good pace and reading of the game to nip in front of the opposition strikers at times to nick the ball.

Taylor Moore - 7

Collected a clear yellow for scything down Celina but instrumental in keeping out the Swans in the first half, as he helped lock down City's right flank. Helped to contain Celina and Baston in good measure.

Tommy Rowe - 7

Most interceptions in the game and another good defensive shift if Ayew unsettled him at times with the former Marseille man's power and movement. Raided forward well but not as much as in recent weeks.

Josh Brownhill - 7

Superb battling display in the middle drawing fouls from the likes of Grimes and blunting the impact of Ayew and co. Recycled possession well Faded a touch in the second half with several misplaced passes and fouls given away.

Han-Noah Massengo - 7

Did very well in the air at winning awkward bouncing balls in the first half. Superbly robbed Celina near the corner flag in one memorable moment of the game.

Callum O'Dowda - 7

Good outing from the Irishman who continually drove at the opposition, flashed a great low cross through the Swans box in the first half and pressed superbly.

Andi Weimann - 6

Several brief openings of goal squandered in the first half and unable to combine with Szmodics initially, though with Diedhiou more so. Several shots from around the box led to nothing.

Sam Szmodics - 6

Quiet opening half an hour but was afforded more of the ball as he dropped deeper. Combined nicely down his flank with other Robins a couple of times but carried little threat.

Substitutes

Famara Diedhiou (for Baker, '30) - 7

Came on after half an hour and helped resuscitate the Robins. Brought his team-mates into play and threatened on crosses, such as meeting several Hunt centres.

Kasey Palmer (for Szmodics, '54) - 7

Replaced Sammie Szmodics to help give City  more thrust in the middle of the pitch. Almost created something for City but other players were often not on his wavelength.

Niclas Eliasson (for O'Dowda, '59) - 7

Criminal that the wing wizard didn't start given how dangerous his crosses often are. Worked hard and helped carry the Robins forward and looked threatening.
