‘A danger to young people’ Police slam twisted paedo who groomed vulnerable Scots teenager for sex

A twisted sex beast who targeted a vulnerable Scots girl has been branded a ‘danger to young people’ by cops.

Car company boss Matthew Kelsey first contacted the teenager on Facebook messenger and pretended to be a 19-year-old man.

The 32-year-old, from Humberside, began to groom his young victim and plied her with presents while calling her pet names like ‘pumpkin’ and ‘princess’.

The sicko then repeatedly drove to Cowie in Stirlingshire for meetings with the 14-year-old and coaxed her into having sex in the back of van that had been fitted with a bed.

When the youngster told her mum that the beast had claimed he was a 19-year-old called Alan Thomas prompting the worried parent to call the police.

Officers launched an investigation and soon caught up with Kelsey who went on to plead guilty at Falkirk Sheriff Court.

He was jailed for two years on Tuesday and handed an 18 month extended sentence where he will be closely monitored and returned to prison if he reoffends.

Police Scotland have hailed the young teenager’s bravery throughout their investigation and welcomed the sex beast’s sentencing.

Detective Sergeant Craig Faulds from Forth Valley Public Protection Unit said: “The horrific crimes which Kelsey committed on this young and vulnerable girl will live with her forever.

“I would like to commend her courage and composure throughout this investigation which has resulted in a dangerous individual being apprehended.

“Officers from Police Scotland worked tirelessly alongside colleagues from Humberside Police to identify and bring Kelsey to justice and I would like to praise their efforts which have resulted in him pleading guilty and avoiding the need for the victim to give evidence at court.

“Matthew Kelsey is a danger to young people and we welcome the sentence and his placement on the Sex Offenders Register means that he will be the subject of monitoring and supervision in efforts to restrict his ability to harm anyone else.

“Police Scotland is committed to the protection of children and to bringing all perpetrators of sexual abuse to justice regardless of the geographical boundaries of offenders.

“We would urge anyone who wishes to report any child protection concerns or sexual crime to contact us on 101 so we can conduct a thorough investigation.”
