Rosie O’Donnell is firing back at President Donald Trump after he renewed his threat to revoke her U.S. citizenship. O’Donnell, who moved to Ireland in January, responded to the threat on her Substack and social media, making it clear that Trump can’t legally do that, and even if he could, she would never give up her American citizenship.
O’Donnell’s response was sharp and direct. According to Fox, the rich actress said, “He can’t do that because it’s against the Constitution, and even the Supreme Court has not given him the right to do that … he’s not allowed to do that, the only way you’re allowed to take away someone’s citizenship is if they renounce it themselves, and I will never renounce my American citizenship. I am a very proud citizen of the United States.”

Trump made his latest threat, stating, “As previously mentioned, we are giving serious thought to taking away Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship”. He went on to say that she is “not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so!”. To be fair, this isn’t the first time he’s made this threat. He made a similar post back in July, where he called her a “Threat to Humanity” and said she should remain in Ireland.
O’Donnell continued, “I am also getting my citizenship here so I can have dual citizenship in Ireland and the United States because I enjoy living here. It’s very peaceful. I love the politics of the country. I love the people and their generous hearts and spirit. And it’s been very good for my daughter. But I still want to maintain my citizenship in the United States. My children are there. I will be there visiting and go to see them. And I have the freedom to do that, as does every American citizen.”

O’Donnell has been very open about her move to Ireland. She told Chris Cuomo she was “very depressed” and “overdrinking” after Trump’s first election victory, which is part of why she moved. On the Irish radio show, “Sunday with Miriam,” she explained that she’s “very proud” to be a critic of Trump and that he’s a “danger to women and children all over the world”. She also said that he uses her as a “punching bag” to “rile his base”.
This back-and-forth has been going on for years now, stretching all the way back to 2006 when she was a host on The View. The feud has included many insults from both sides over the years, with Trump even bringing her up during a 2016 presidential debate. It seems like it’s a battle that will continue for the foreseeable future.
