'A crime' - The prospect five Newcastle players are 'buzzing' about after what team-mate said

Sean Longstaff believes it is a 'crime' that a number of his Newcastle United team-mates have yet to sample a full house under the lights at St James' Park because it is the 'best place in the world to play football'.

Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick and Mark Gillespie all joined Newcastle last summer but the quintet have not yet had the chance to play in front of the club's supporters because of the pandemic.

Ten thousand Geordies returned to St James' for the final home game of the season, against Sheffield United, earlier this month but Wilson and Fraser missed the match through injury while Lewis, Hendrick and Gillespie did not get off the bench.

Joe Willock, who joined Newcastle on loan until the end of the campaign, did start, though, and the Arsenal loanee scored the only goal in the Magpies' 1-0 win as those fans present repeatedly told the midfielder that they wanted him to stay.

Willock already had half an idea of what to expect, after previously playing for Arsenal at St James', and Longstaff has been telling the club's most recent arrivals about some of the special nights he has experienced with his boyhood club.

"I was speaking to Jeff Hendrick about it and the other new lads, just saying that the fact you haven't played in front of a packed St James' yet is a crime really and I think the new lads are buzzing to get out in front of them," he told Tubes & Ange Golf Life.

"I was just saying on the nights where we win, especially in midweek, night-time games, it's the best place in the world to play football."
