Beautifully crafted. Maas has weaved yet another spell-binding storyline, filled with danger, faeries and a whirling romance sure to leave any reader dizzy.
Feyre is a huntress, a human, a captive in her promise to protect her family no matter what the cost. Yet, poverty, filth and starvation are nothing; nothing compared to the danger that lurks beyond the wall hidden in the woods…
But all it takes: one arrow, one kill, one mistake, and the Fae have come to claim her life forever.
Snatched from her mundane existence to the world across the wall, as a prisoner Feyre is finally free. A thorn amongst roses, in the Spring Court, Feyre must find her courage, compassion and above all her heart. Falling for High Lord Tamlin defies everything she knows, but she is powerless to douse the fire blazing between them. Fate, destiny, true love… With a sickness setting over Prythian fear lurks around every corner and as the plot plays out the stakes are higher than ever. Love was Feyre's saviour, but it could be all their downfalls…
A story of family, friendships and of love, conquering unspeakable odds.
Beauty, sacrifice and true courage really are shining points in this novel. Maas has outdone herself creating a captivating world of magic, violence and brutal politics; yet what else could we expect from the legendary author of 'Throne of Glass'?
Accompanied by a sparkling narrative, Feyre's journey shows her character grow and change, as she finds parts of herself she thought she'd lost, only to risk having them shattered again along the way. In particular, the ways in which relationships progress throughout this novel is significant, with characters never turning out quite the way you expected them. A quick heads up to future readers: in this world of lustrous illusions things aren't always as they seem and first appearances can be deceiving.
Court plots and war shadows are all tied in perfectly to an irrevocably addictive romance that consumes you from early on. Forbidden love has always been an idea toyed with by authors and Maas does not disappoint. As she entwines the paths of these star-crossed lovers, the daunting impossibility that a relationship such as theirs could exist drives Feyre and Tamlin ever closer. The tragedy of it is heart wrenching and Maas is sure to play with your heart until the very end.
Furthermore, the labyrinth of twists and turns throughout will keep any reader on their toes. Yet, I love it for its carefully concealed underplot, which hints to Maas' ambitions in regards to the scale of this series. Be sure not to miss a word!
Overall, a page turner from chapter one, simply waiting to be devoured. Despite a fantastic ending, you'll flit through the pages begging for more. Maas still has a billion and one questions to answer to satisfy the readers, but I'm sure all will be revealed as this epic fantasy trilogy progresses.
Trust me this book grasp extends far beyond just YA readers with a style that will leave any fans of L.J. Smith, Cassandra Clare or George R.R. Martin spellbound. For me, an immediate must read – time to start crossing the days off your calendars: May 7, 2015.
