Your fae ears have probably heard the rumours, but if not, then yes — fantasy author Sarah J. Maas has officially finished the first draft of A Court of Thorns and Roses (aka ACOTAR) book six!! According to some theories, she might have also finished the first draft for ACOTAR book seven and eight. Cue screams from the BookTok girlies (myself included).
Now that I’ve got a taste of the news, I need these new books IMMEDIATELY.
To satiate our hunger until the release, I’ve taken the liberty of pulling together everything we know about ACOTAR six, seven and eight. Maasassins, rise up.
PS: I’ve tried to ensure no spoilers, however, I will be naming characters and who they are. Proceed at your own risk <3

When were ACOTAR 6, 7, and 8 confirmed?
Sarah took to her Insta feed on July 12 to announce that the first drafts had been completed. In true ACOTAR queen fashion, she didn’t make it straightforward. Instead, she posted a video that showed a quick glimpse of a notebook, which, when zoomed in on, appears to read “ACOTAR 6-8.”
I know what you’re thinking. “Yeah, but Emily, the 8 could just be a squiggle.” First of all, how dare you, and second of all, she’s way too intentional for that. What really nailed the coffin for me is when she wrote “First drafts DONE” in the caption. Notice the plural on draftS? Not one, but multiple drafts, for multiple books. I rest my case.
When will ACOTAR 6, 7 and 8 be released?
Based on the two to three-year release gaps between ACOTAR books three, four, and five, ACOTAR book six could be released either later in 2025 or in the first half of 2026. Fingers crossed it’s the former.
Based on that timeline, ACOTAR book seven is estimated to be released around 2027 / 2028, and ACOTAR book eight from 2029 / 2030.

What will ACOTAR book six be about?
In true Sarah J. Maas fashion, she’s been tight-lipped about the plot for ACOTAR six.
Be that as it may, the fan theories will never stop.
The sixth book is most likely going to be about the main character Feyre’s sisters. The question is, which one? It could build on the plot from ACOTAR 5, A Court of Silver Flames, which was told from Nesta’s point of view. Or, it could shift the focus to Elain, whose story hasn’t yet taken centre stage.
My gut is telling me it’ll be Nesta, since there are still questions left unanswered from her POV. This means the seventh book will be about Elain, and then the eighth book will come full circle, focusing back on Feyre.
I’ll leave you with this: when Sarah was asked what ACOTAR book six is about in 2021, she said, “[I] thought it was pretty obvious.” Do with that info as you will.

What do I need to read before ACOTAR books 6, 7 and 8?
Spoiler alert, there are tonnes of books you’ll need to read before ACOTAR six, seven and eight. Mama Maas honestly spoiled us with a multiverse across ACOTAR, TOG and Crescent City. Trust that I will be re-reading.
I’ve compiled Sarah J. Maas’s books in the correct order (this is my opinion, don’t come for me) below. And full disclosure: this involves reading both the ACOTAR series and the separate (but interconnected) series, Throne of Glass (TOG) and Crescent City.
@lilianagracee It’s only a 16 book multiverse 😢 #booktok #acotar #aelingalathynius #fantasy #popularbooks #throneofglass #sarahjmaas #maasverse #rhysand ♬ Its not clocking to you – Chief Green Screens
Phase one: Fall in love with the main characters of ACOTAR and TOG
- Throne of Glass (TOG): Meet Celaena, an assassin with secrets and swagger.
- A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR): Here, we’re introduced to Feyre, a mortal girl dragged into the fae world.
- Crown of Midnight (TOG): Celaena has a big choice to make in this one.
- A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOTAR): Find out more about Rhysand, the High Lord of the Night Court. This is the second book in the ACOTAR series, but — no exaggeration — changes everything. It’s also low-key the horniest.
- Heir of Fire (TOG): We’re introduced to Rowan, the Fae warrior, and Manon, an IronTeeth witch.
Phase two: Meet the rest of the ACOTAR and TOG cast
6. A Court of Wings and Ruin (ACOTAR): Get to know the Inner Court: Mor, Cassian, Azriel and Amren.
7. Queen of Shadows (TOG): Meet Lysandra, a former courtesan.
8. A Court of Frost and Starlight (ACOTAR): Watch as Nesta and Elain get close to the Inner Circle.
Phase three: Gain perspective from ACOTAR and TOG side characters
- The Assassin’s Blade (TOG): Backstory for Celaena and Sam, a fellow assassin.
- A Court of Silver Flames (ACOTAR): Nesta and Cassian take the spotlight.
Phase four: Finally get to enter Crescent City, with a final battle brewing
- House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City): Meet Bryce, a half-fae, half-human and Hunt Athalar, a fallen angel.
- Empire of Storms (ACOTAR): Aelin’s court is fully formed now.
- Tower of Dawn (TOG): Introduced to the Southern Continent cast, plus Yrene, a gifted healer.
Phase five: Crossovers!!
- House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City): The multiverse cracks open.
- Kingdom of Ash (TOG): Aelin glimpses ACOTAR’s Night Court.
- House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City): All characters you’ve grown to love… start showing up in the same place.
