A cornerback for Chargers in every round of 2020 NFL Draft

The Chargers added four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Chris Harris Jr. to the mix earlier this offseason.

However, Harris will be manning the slot this upcoming season, which still leaves a question that needs to be answered at the outside spot, opposite of Casey Hayward.

Michael Davis is slated to be the starter, but he was up-and-down last season, while also struggling to stay on the field towards the end of the year. Davis also only has one more year remaining on his contract.

With that being said, Los Angeles could look to add a cornerback in the upcoming draft.

Here is a cornerback from each round that could fit in Los Angeles:

Round 1 | Jeffrey Okudah, Ohio State

Arguably one of the most physically gifted and talented cornerbacks in this year’s class, Okudah possesses the ideal measurements for the position at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds. An elite coverage player, Okudah has the speed, instincts, mirror abilities and ball skills. He’s also willing in the run game.

In his three seasons for the Buckeyes, Okudah finished with 88 tackles, 21 passes defensed, three interceptions, two forced fumbles and one sack. In his final campaign, he was named unanimous All-American; First-Team All-Big Ten and Jim Thorpe Award finalist.

Round 2 | Jeff Gladney, TCU

Gladney, the 5-foot-10 and 191 pound corner lacks the ideal measurements for the position, but he has adequate transition skills, great instincts, closing speed, football intelligence and a scrappy mentality, projecting as a long-term starter in the NFL.

A four-year starter with the Horned Frogs, Gladney recorded 146 total tackles, 37 passes defensed and five interceptions. In 2018, he was named Second-Team All Big-12 and the following year, he earned First-Team All Big-12 for his efforts.

Round 3 | Bryce Hall, Virginia

Staying healthy will be key after injuring his ankle in the second half of his final season, but Hall is a long, physical cornerback who shows the ability to stay in phase, awareness in zone coverage and a ballhawk mentality, projecting as a starter if the medicals check out.

In four seasons, Hall amassed 154 tackles, 44 passes defensed, 9.5 tackles for loss and five interceptions. In 2018, Hall earned Second team All-American and First Team All-ACC, along with leading the FBS in passes defensed (24).

Round 4 | Reggie Robinson, Tulsa

Robinson didn’t get as much recognition as the other top cornerbacks throughout the year, but he put his name on the map after an impressive week at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, where he proved himself against some of the more premiere wideouts.

At 6-foot and 205 pounds, Robinson is a tall and long cornerback who has the play speed and physicality to stay with receivers in man coverage as well as the zone awareness and ball skills to create turnovers, projecting as a capable starter.

Robinson finished his collegiate career with 132 tackles, 38 passes defensed, four interceptions and one forced fumble. In 2019, Robinson earned First Team All-AAC honors and led the conference in passes defended (17).

Round 5 | Harrison Hand, Temple

A Baylor transfer, Hand played both man and zone at Temple in his one year as a starter. Hand, the 5-foot-11 and 197 pounder showed to operate better in zone, using his read-and-react skills and eye discipline to make plays, projecting as a backup corner with starter upside.

In his three seasons at the college level, Hand finished with 114 tackles, 20 passes defensed, four interceptions, 5.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble. In 2017, he earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12.

Round 6 | Demarkus Acy, Missouri

Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Acy, the 6-foot-2 and 215 pounder is long and rangy who has experience in a variety of coverages. His speed, toughness and play recognition are plus traits. He also has a good feel for peeling off zones and high pointing targets at the catch point.

In 47 games, Acy posted 99 tackles, 20 passes defensed, three interceptions and 6.5 tackles for loss. In 2018, he earned Second-Team All-SEC honors, as well as leading the team in interceptions (13).

Round 7 | Parnell Motley, Oklahoma

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Motley, the 6-foot and 184 pound corner plays an aggressive brand of football, relying on his ball skills, toughness and instincts to crowd the catch point and fill in against the run.

In four seasons, Motley finished with 176 tackles, 39 passes defensed, six interceptions, 7.5 tackles for loss and six forced fumbles. In 2018, he earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 and was named Second-Team All-Big 12 in his senior campaign.
