A concerning Vikings stat for the 2022 offseason

Foe Vikings fans, there are plenty of things to be excited about.

Minnesota has an explosive offense that returns most of its key talent. The defense struggled in 2020, but the group has been completely revamped through free agency.

However, many of those free agent signings were on one-year deals. The Vikings could very well improve this year, but there is a concern looming for when the 2021 season ends.

According to Over the Cap’s Jason Fitzgerald, Minnesota is among the NFL leaders in potential free agent snaps. Meaning, the Vikings will field a lot of players in 2021 who will be looking for new deals next offseason. The team is set to have 11,108 snaps in total for players who could potentially become unrestricted free agents. You can read more about the methodology here.

Will that come back to hurt them? Who knows? Minnesota could get a resurgent year out of Patrick Peterson, but that might make it hard to re-sign him next offseason. Then, there are the other free agents, like Brian O’Neill, Harrison Smith, Anthony Barr and many more.

It’s gearing up to be an interesting 2021 season. The offseason after should be interesting, too.
