A college football fan proposed on Paul Finebaum’s show

This might be the most diehard SEC fan thing ever.

During The Paul Finebaum Show on Wednesday, Beau from Memphis, an Arkansas football fan, proposed to Mikki, his girlfriend of four years. While on the air, Beau explained that Mikki was listening to the show, and he asked Finebaum if it was OK for him to ask her a very important question.

Of course, the ESPN college football analyst and personality obliged, and Beau from Memphis said:

“Mikki, I love you so much. You’re the love of my life. I couldn’t imagine spending a day without you. You are my rock and I will get your answer later but, in front of the whole nation, will you marry me, sweetheart? I love you very, very much.”

It appeared to catch Finebaum — whose callers are a famously dedicated, enthusiastic and often peculiar bunch — off-guard, and he asked Beau a fairly reasonable question.

Finebaum: This may sound like a silly question, but is there a reason why you chose this program to propose?

Beau from Memphis: Because it’s the greatest show on radio or you could even say TV. You have the greatest callers, and you are one of the most knowledgeable and nicest people that I’ve ever listened to.

As it turns out, Mikki really was listening to the show because while Beau was still on the phone, he confirmed that she said yes. And then Finebaum made the happy couple quite an offer:

“You stay in touch with us about when this is going to happen, and you can get married right here in the studio for all I care. But we’ll come to Arkansas if we have to.”

This kind of proposal isn’t like the horribleness of stadium proposals, and if they’re both listening to or watching Finebaum’s show in the middle of a Wednesday afternoon, perhaps this was their own perfect way to get engaged.
