Cold and sunny start to weather forecast for Liverpool and Wirral as beer gardens prepare to open

People on Merseyside have woken up this morning with sun streaming through their windows with just a day until beer gardens and restaurant terraces are able to reopen.

The sun may be bright but outside it's a frosty start to the day.

Temperatures in the early morning are just a few degrees above freezing with a high of around seven degrees Celsius expected this afternoon and should last until early evening.

The good news is that long stretches of cloudless skies and bright sunshine are set to continue until the evening.

But cold, light winds will make it feel a few degrees colder, so you have been warned.

Tonight will be another cold night but thickening cloud could bring with it some patchy rain.

At the start of next week, wintry showers are expected in many places with the occasional sunny spell.

With the increased cloud cover, temperatures begin to creep up as the week goes on, reaching nine Celsius on Tuesday, and expected maximum temperatures around 11 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

So for next week, cloudy with scattered showers with the sun managing to break through the clouds at some point.

The good news is this sunshine should increase by Wednesday and Thursday, with the temperatures gradually becoming milder.
