A cinematic pile-up: Hundreds of films queued for release as screens reopen in France

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

As we look ahead to opening of movie theatres here in France, film critic Lisa Nesselson considers the glut of new features hitting screens and picks out some priority films to see.

Director Charlène Favier has drawn on her own experience as an athlete to create the uncomfortable, highly competitive atmosphere of "Slalom", which follows young protagonist Lyz, as she is coached for success on the ski slopes.

Meanwhile, Viggo Mortensen makes his directorial début with “Falling”, an impressive and nuanced take on family dynamics as dementia ravages a father and his son tries to keep things on an even keel.

Finally, we check out surreal, strange and unpredictable comedy "Mandibules" from offbeat French director Quentin Dupieux.
