New public spaces and a children's play area are coming to SA1 after the Welsh Government gave Swansea Council £1 million to design and maintain them.
A business club is also keen to get involved if it results in a specialist facility for disabled children and their families.
The SA1 Waterfront Business Club has indicated it would contribute towards costs for such a playground by the Prince of Wales Dock, Langdon Road, which is the largest of the three sites in question.
Adam Smith, general manager of Village Hotel, where the business club is based, said there was a major shortage of these specialist playgrounds nationally.
“The issue is not just about providing the right equipment," said Mr Smith.
“What’s also needed is good access and a large enough dedicated car park with wider spaces for vehicles carrying wheelchairs or walkers.”
He said he had raised the matter with a Swansea cabinet member, and wanted to hear the thoughts of businesses in the area.
Play areas are lacking in SA1 but there is open space at the square by the Sail Bridge, plus a wide footpath around Prince of Wales Dock.
The Welsh Government owns SA1, and it was agreed last year that instead of creating the three open public spaces - one to include a children's play area - itself, it would give the council £1 million to take on the job.
A council spokesman said it was in the process of designing the open spaces and play area, and they would be accessible to all.
He added: "We would be happy to discuss with the business club any involvement or support they may be interested in providing."
