A child has tested positive for coronavirus at a Nottinghamshire village school

Children at a Nottinghamshire village primary school have been told to self isolate after a child tested positive for coronavirus.

Cropwell Bishop Primary school confirmed on Thursday, July 16 it had a confirmed case of Covid-19.

A child had reportedly taken a test as part of a survey linked with a symptom app and tested positive.

After discussing with Public Health England, the headteacher of the school said other children who may have had contact should isolate for 14 days.

The school of around 200 pupils, which is part of the Equals Trust, has remained open as normal for other pupils and staff.

A letter to parents on the school's website reads: "Many of you will be aware that a child at Cropwell Bishop Primary has had a confirmed case of Covid-19.

"This information was passed to school this morning and subsequently we informed the families of the children who may have had some brief contact.

"The child in question had not displayed any symptoms, neither had their family members.

"They had been asked to take a test as part of a survey linked to the C-19 symptom study app.

"The child in question attended in one of the Year 5 transition groups yesterday, was outside for the whole hour and did not enter the school building. They have not been at school on any other occasion.

"Our hygiene and virus control procedures have been followed at all times."

Headteacher Louisa Hussey ended the letter with: "We do appreciate that parents will be very concerned about these events but please remember that all procedures have been followed carefully to minimise risk.

"The safety of staff and pupils is of paramount importance to us. I know that you will join with us in sending our best wishes and speedy recovery to the family involved."
