A busy road was closed in Salford while police worked to help a man down from a bridge

A busy main road was closed through Salford while police tried to help a man down from a bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The man was said to have clambered onto a bridge above Memorial Road, in Worsley, just before 5pm.

Emergency crews responded and the road was closed for almost three hours while police worked to help the man.

He was eventually brought to safety at around 8pm, Greater Manchester Police said.

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted about the incident reporting that the junction of Park Road and Walkden Road was closed "due to an ongoing police incident".

TfGM reported that the road had re-opened just before 8pm.

A GMP spokesperson told the Manchester Evening News: "Male was on bridge, is now down and in the care of relevant medical personnel".

They were not able to provide any further details.
