A burglar was caught after police recognised him from CCTV footage

A burglar who was caught after police officers recognised him on CCTV footage has been jailed.

Eagle-eyed officers identified Warren Spencer after reviewing footage of the burglary at a home in Bolton last month.

The property's occupants were awoken when their house alarm sounded at about 5am on Thursday, July 9.

They then saw a man running away from the scene, in Morven Grove, Breightmet.

When CCTV was later passed on to neighbourhood officers, they immediately identified the man in the footage as Spencer.

Officers launched a search for the 43-year-old and found him inside a flat on Toronto Street, Breightmet, the following day.

When arrested, he was also found to be carrying cannabis on him.

Spencer was charged with burglary and possession of cannabis and remanded in custody.

He appeared before Manchester & Salford Magistrates' Court on July 11, where he was handed a six-month conditional discharge for possession of cannabis and fined a victim surcharge.

He was then ordered to attend Bolton Crown Court on Friday (August 7) in relation to the burglary.

After pleading guilty to the charge, Spencer, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to two years and four months behind bars.

A judge also ordered him to pay a fine of £156.
