When the legal system mirrors the nightmare of Kafka’s Josef K (A man called Y, G2, 6 June), we should ask who is responsible. A key component is any lawyer taking part in the Special Immigration Appeals Commission. The procedures there are greatly at variance with any idea of justice, but many seemingly distinguished lawyers and judges are prepared to participate. How revealing that a mass boycott has never been attempted.

• Joseph Cocker (Letters, 1 July) tells us that rural bus service anomalies include “one company permitting dogs on board and another not, and one-day rover tickets being only valid on certain services”. Presumably it is the dog-friendly operators who accept the rover tickets?
