'Creeper' burglar jailed for four years following break-in in Bristol

A burglar who carried out a "creeper-style" break-in at a home in Bristol has been jailed for four years.

Anthony Paul Squire, 50, of Berwick Road in the city, has been convicted following a trial at Bristol Crown Court of one count of burglary and four counts of fraud.

Squire was noted for carrying out a "creeper-style" burglary which involved breaking into a property in Treefield Place in St Werburghs overnight on May 31 and June 1, whilst the occupant slept inside.

The burglar then stole money, cards and a purse. He later used the card to withdraw money and buy goods.

One of the fraud convictions related to the use of a card which had been taken in a separate burglary.

Investigating officer PC Sean Vine said: "Anthony Squire committed these offences while out on licence following a previous conviction of similar offences.

“This was one of the early investigations carried out following the launch of Operation Remedy, which is focusing on tackling burglary, drugs and violent crime in our communities.

“Burglary is a highly invasive crime which can have a lasting impact on victims – that’s why we’re committed to bringing offenders like Squire to justice.”
