A brand new music festival is coming to Edinburgh in May - everything you need to know

A brand new music festival featuring the very best in upcoming artists and established artists is coming to Edinburgh in May.

The Great Eastern Festival is a brand new all-day festival taking place on Saturday May 9. It was established in the hopes of being as successful as The Great Western Festival, which debuted in Glasgow's West End in November last year.

The festival will feature the themes of musical exploration and discovery, hosting over 40 acts across a variety of spaces within the capital - including Summerhall, The Queen's Hall and King's Hall.

This is the latest project for promoters 432 Presents, in association with Summerhall/Nothing Ever Happens Here and The Queen's Hall.

One of the first exciting artists to be announced for the festival is Bristol trio Beak, featuring Portishead's Geoff Barrow. They put on a standout performance for their biggest Scottish crowd to date at QMU in December.

Joining them will be Scottish electro-phenomenon Free Love, who will be bringing their signature synth sound to the capital for a Spring celebration.

The Great Eastern will also see London post-punk band Warmduscher perform, who sadly were forced to pull out of last year's Great Western due to vocalist Clams Baker Jnr. breaking his arm, but are now back and ready for action!

The festival will also have B.C. Camplight, Welsh indie-rockers Boy Azooga, Penelope Isles, Broken Records and Rachel Sermanni, JFDR, Kaputt, BABii, Swim School, Super Inuit, Quiche, Rory James, Kubitaru and Hamish Hawk.

Long-running magazine The Skinny will also have their own stage as part of the festival.

More acts are set to be announced shortly!
