A boy of four was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in Oldham

A boy aged four has been seriously injured after being struck by a car in Oldham.

The incident happened on Shaw Road shortly before 6.41pm on Saturday.

It is believed the boy was with his father when he ran into the road.

Police and paramedics attended the scene and the boy was taken to hospital.

Officers spoke to the driver of the car.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police received reports at 6.41pm of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Shaw Road. Police attended and located all the parties and a young child who appears to have walked out into the road."

The boy suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, added the spokesman.

Shaw Road was closed between Edge Lane Street and Turf Lane while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
