A Blues’ shot left Zdeno Chara gushing blood near end of the Stanley Cup Final’s Game 1

You don’t often see Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara screaming in pain on the ice.

During Boston’s Game 1 win over the St. Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup Final, the 42-year-old captain exited play with an apparent arm injury. He was gushing blood after taking Vladimir Tarasenko’s shot to the forearm.

With the puck breaking Chara’s skin and leaving him bloodied, the Bruins defensemen left the game in the third period and immediately headed to the locker room. He told reporters after the game that he received stitches for the gash.

“Just a cut,” Chara said.

Chara finished the game with an assist, a shot and two hits in almost 20 minutes of ice time during the Bruins’ 4-2 victory in Boston.
