'A Blue Angel through and through': Bikers lead emotional procession to say good bye to their friend

Hundreds of bikers lead an emotional send-off for Leeds man, John Rhodes, the longest-running member of the Blue Angels Motorcycle Club.

John Rhodes, the father of three and grandfather of six, tragically died of lung cancer in July.

To pay their respects, more than 200 members of the Blue Angels from different chapters, took part in the last ride for John starting from Belle Isle to Cottingley Cemetry for the funeral service, yesterday (Friday 14 August).

John, 67, was the longest-running member of the Leeds chapter of the motorcycle club which was formed in Scotland in 1963, 57 years ago.

He also worked in the Merrion Centre for more than 40 years.

His son, Darren Rhodes, 44 said: “The funeral went as good as we could have asked really.

“He was a well-respected and well-known man. We didn’t know how many people would turn up but there were around 220 people.

“He was a hardworking bloke. He was a pleasant bloke when you got to know him.

"He was a Blue Angel through and through.”
