'A big talent' - Manager Sabri Lamouchi issues vote of confidence in out-of-form Forest ace

Head coach Sabri Lamouchi says he is not worried about Joe Lolley’s form for Nottingham Forest, backing the winger to “make the difference” for the Reds this season.

Responding to criticism on Twitter, Lolley last week admitted he hasn’t “been at my best for whatever reason” so far.

The 27-year-old had a superb 2018/19 in the Garibaldi, winning plenty of awards - including Forest’s Player of the Year honour - and earning no shortage of plaudits.

His 12 goals in 51 appearances last term saw him catch the eye of other clubs, most notably Aston Villa, as he became renowned for his stunning strikes.

Lolley has not quite managed to hit the same heights just yet this time around, though has four goals to his name nevertheless.

But Lamouchi is confident the performances will come.

“He is not in top form yet, but he has started most of the games with me because he is a key player,” said the Frenchman.

“He has a big talent and he will help us.

“I trust him, and he knows that.

“All the team know what Joe Lolley can do for us.

“I am not worried about Joe Lolley - this can happen.

“I’m sure he will make the difference for us.”

And Lamouchi says it is not just Lolley who is still to find top gear in the current campaign.

After a strong start, Forest suffered back-to-back defeats when they returned from the recent international break, losing to Wigan Athletic and Hull City.

With last weekend’s clash at home to Reading postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, they have dropped to 10th in the table, albeit just five points adrift of leaders West Bromwich Albion.

Lamouchi is keen for everyone in the squad to up their performance levels as they look to get back on track.

“Of course he needs to do more, but it is not only Joe Lolley who needs to do that. Everyone does,” he said.

“Everyone needs to increase their game a little bit - their focus, their performance, attitude, everything.”
