A baby was born on the hard shoulder of the M60 this morning.
Police officers came across a parked car on the side of the motorway - and were shocked to find a woman inside who had just given birth.
North West Motorway Police said they came across the vehicle near to junction eight for Carrington at 2.10am this morning.
When they took a closer look they were surprised to find the mum and baby boy, just minutes after she had given birth.
The officers called an ambulance and the new family were taken to hospital, where they are said to be 'doing fine'.
Officers later discovered the little boy has been named Luke.
No further details about the mum and son have been released by NWMP.

Rob Lewis, communications supervisor for NWMP, said: "One of our motorway patrols from Greater Manchester Police came across a vehicle stopped on the hard shoulder of the M60 near to Carrington.
"The mum had just given birth on the hard shoulder. The baby was fine and they contacted an ambulance.
"They were treated by the ambulance straight away and taken to hospital. They made some follow up enquiries and mum and baby are doing fine."
An initial tweet sent by NWMP said: "GMP patrol just come across a vehicle on hard shoulder on M60, upon closer inspection was greeted with a female just given birth, Ambulance now on scene, first reports are Mum and baby doing fine.
"Pleased to announce baby been named Luke, May the force be with them."
