A$AP Rocky: Swedish prosectors ask for more time in Stockholm assault case

Swedish prosecutors have asked to keep US rapper A$AP Rocky in custody for another six days as they investigate his involvement in a fight that took place in Stockholm

The 30-year-old artist, born Rakim Mayers, was arrested on 3 July along with his bodyguard and two members of his entourage in connection with a fight that occurred in the early hours of 30 June – shortly after his performance at a festival.

“We ... now need until Thursday next week to be able to finish the preliminary investigation,” Daniel Suneson, the prosecutor now in charge of the case, said in a statement, declining to comment further.

Rocky denies an allegation of assault. Prior to his arrest, he uploaded a series of videos to his Instagram account showing an altercation with two men.

During the videos, Rocky claims that the men have been following them and that one of the men threw a pair of headphones at his bodyguard, who is seen telling the men to leave Rocky's group alone.

The bodyguard was released without charge while a judge on 5 July extended the detention of Mayers and his two other associates. Rocky was forced to cancel a number of scheduled appearances, including his headline show at Wireless Festival in London last weekend.

Since his arrest, a number of fellow high-profile rappers in the US, including Tyler, the Creator and Lil Yachty, have pledged to boycott Sweden over its treatment of Rocky.
