A$AP Rocky arrested on suspicion of assault days before headlining Wireless Festival

A$AP Rocky has been arrested in Stockholm days before he is due to headline London’s Wireless Festival.

Swedish Police confirmed the Grammy-nominated artist has been held on suspicion of assault, along with three others, following a festival performance in Stockholm.

In accordance with the law in Sweden the 30-year-old could be detained for at least three days before appearing before a judge.

A Swedish lawyer representing the artist said his client denied wrongdoing.

Video footage, published in the US, appeared to show a scuffle involving the star. Rocky – real name Rakim Mayers – appeared to be a peacemaker in other videos.

Video footage shared from the star's Instagram account

The Public Prosecutor's Office said four people, including Rocky, have been arrested on suspicion of assault, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported.

Prosecutor Fredrik Karlsson said: “They had the intention to leave the country quite soon and if they leave the country there could be a risk that we would not be able to get them convicted if they had done this crime."

Rocky's lawyer Henrik Olsoon Lilja said: "We are working hard with this and confident that the prosecutor will take a decision in favour of my client when he gets the full picture."

Rocky had performed at the Smash Festival in Stockholm Stadium before the video was shared.

Along with Rae Stremmurd and AJ Tracey, Rocky is set to close Wireless Festival on Sunday, in Finsbury Park.

Wireless Festival has been approached by the Standard for a comment.
