A 90-year-old man earns a PhD in Chennai, India

A 90-year-old man has earned a PhD in Chennai, India.

Paul Siromoni was awarded a doctorate after writing six papers, taking three long exams and attending several seminars.

He started working on his thesis after retirement and was awarded his PhD after studying for a three-year period.

The topic of his research was “God's call to the church to join in transforming the world into a kingdom of love”, India Today reported.

Mr Siromoni was previously the Head of the Industrial Team Service at Saint Mark's Cathedral and is also a founding member of the Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science.

He has also spent time teaching in the slums of Bangalore, helping people learn basic necessities such as health care and how to make a living.

His wife Joyce Siromoni, who is 87, is still working and helps rehabilitate people suffering from mental illness.

She graduated with a medical degree in 1954 and has worked in several hospitals across India.
