A 4DX cinema experience is coming to Manchester with moving seats and smells bringing films to life

A cinema experience bringing films to life with moving seats and scents pumped into the audience is coming to Ashton-under-Lyne.

The 4DX auditorium will open at the town's Cineworld cinema later this month, promising an 'immersive' experience that will stimulate all five senses.

Seats will move, vibrate and shake and effects like water, wind and strobe lighting will mirror the action on screen.

Smells including gunpowder, burning rubber and coffee will also be simulated to add another sensory dimension.

Films will be played on a curved screen larger than a double decker bus in both 2D and 3D formats.

Opening on August 28, it will be the second such screen in Greater Manchester along with the one at Cineworld Didsbury.

Angel Has Fallen, IT Chapter Two and Ad Astra will be among the first films to be shown in the auditorium.

Francis Lamb, Cineworld Ashton-under-Lyne general manager, said: “We’re thrilled to introduce cinema goers to our new 4DX auditorium. There’s nothing like it and it can only be experienced at Cineworld, in the UK.

"We’re opening with a fantastic line-up of movies perfect for 4DX including Angel Has Fallen, IT Chapter Two and Ad Astra. We can’t wait to see customers’ reactions when they try out the extreme, multi-sensory cinema experience.”
