A 43-year-old Salford dad with stage 4 cancer has one final wish - for a caravan holiday with his family

A dad with terminal cancer has one final wish - to go on a caravan holiday with his family.

Gavin Stott, 43, has stage 4 appendix cancer and has been told by doctors there are no more treatment options available.

His niece, Amy Stott, has launched a fundraiser to ensure her uncle is able make some final, special memories with his wife, Susan, and their two sons, Adam and Jason.

Amy, 21, from Swinton, said: "My uncle isn't very old and at his age he should be thinking about the future.

"He doesn't have a big list of things he'd like to do. One of those was get married and they managed to do that.

"The other was to go and stay in a caravan with his family, either in Blackpool or Wales.

"We're raising money to make it happen and help with anything else they might need."

Rugby fan Gavin, who is originally from Salford but lives in Openshaw, was diagnosed with cancer of the appendix in March last year.

He underwent chemotherapy before Christmas and, like most cancer patients, had to shield when the coronavirus pandemic hit the UK.

The family were told in July that the cancer had spread to Gavin's lungs.

His sons Adam, 19, and Jason, 14, have also had to shield to keep their dad safe from the virus and their mum Susan is now sole carer for Gavin.

The couple have been together since they were in their 20s and managed to get married on Tuesday, October 6.

Doctors at The Christie say they are unable to do anything for Gavin at this stage.

"It's been an unbelievably upsetting and hard time for the family," added Amy.

"My Uncle Gavin is just such a fun, outgoing person. A real happy chappy.

"We used to go to the rugby together and have a laugh. That's what he's like.

"It's been really difficult with Covid too.

"That's why we just want to help them as much as we can."

So far, Amy's GoFundMe page has raised more than £3000.
