A 24-hour Burger King drive-thru is set to open in a Swansea community

A new Burger King drive-thru is set to be opened in Gowerton if planning permission is granted by Swansea Council .

A patch of waste ground in Victoria Road, next to the offices of Swansea Sound, has been earmarked for the development, which also includes plans for eight industrial units and parking.

According the planning application submitted to Swansea Council, the takeaway chain has "agreed to occupy the drive-thru element of the site subject to receipt of a satisfactory planning permission."

It is thought that 30 jobs would also be created if the plans go ahead and that the Burger King would be open 24 hours a day.

As well as this, a "significant" number of jobs are expected to come with the occupation of the industrial units on the site.

There have been several attempts to develop the site in recent years - including one for a single story drive-thru that was denied in June, 2019, partly because the land is an area of flood risk and the developer "failed to provide a Flood Consequences Assessment."

A planning application for a car valet business was submitted and approved in 2007, as well as a successful application for the creation of a trampoline centre in 2016.

Welsh Water has made submissions for the latest planning application, saying the site is "located in an area which has the potential to discharge into national and international designated waters."

The Afon Lliw runs next to the site and is subject to restrictions under Schedule 3 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. From January 7, 2019, all new developments more than 100m2 have required "sustainable drainage" to manage surface water.

This means that the developer will need to show what impact "any revised or additional water discharges, either foul of surface water, will have on the local drainage systems and ultimately the designated waters."
