A £200,000 sports car had its front smashed to pieces in a five-vehicle crash near Cardiff

A top of the range Porsche sports car was one of five vehicles involved in an road traffic collision in Penarth , Cardiff , today.

An image released by South Wales Police shows a red and black Porsche 911 GT2 RS that has suffered serious damage to its carbon fibre front wing.

Only 1000 of the high-powered cars were made and sold worldwide when production ended this year. 

The basic GT2 RS costs around £207,000, with optional extras of £20,000 to improve performance. It has a top speed of 211mph and runs on 700bhp.

The road was closed while recovery of the vehicles took place (@Leemiz)

In March this year, Top Gear's mysterious white-helmeted test driver, The Stig, set the fastest-ever lap of the Top Gear test track in his 17 years on the show, in such a vehicle. 

With the GT2 RS having a top speed of 211mph, Stig beat the previous lap record of one minute 13.7 seconds, held by a McClaren 675LT, by 0.3 seconds.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman confirmed they attended the scene of a 5 vehicle RTC in Penarth and all vehicles had been recovered from the scene.  No injuries were reported.
