994 new Covid inpatients, 27 more deaths

There were 27 more Covid-19 fatalities and 994 patients admitted to hospitals on Monday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Tuesday.

This compared with 26 coronavirus-related fatalities and 1,273 patients on Sunday, as reported on Monday.

As of midnight Monday, a total of 15,459 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 16,603 the previous day), including 8,812 in hospitals (down from 8,945). Of the remainder, 142 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 160) and 6,443 in home/community isolation (down from 7,436).

Of those in hospitals, 777 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (up from 760) and 384 dependent on ventilators (up from 371).

As of Tuesday the daily averages over a 14-day period were - 1,792 new patients, down from 2,107 as of Aug 17 figures; 777 seriously ill patients, down from 943; 384 dependent on ventilators, down from 511; and 28 coronavirus-related deaths, down from 32.

The 24-hour period also saw 2,111 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Of the 994 new cases admitted to hospitals over the 24 hours, there were 993 cases in the general population and one imported case.

From Aug 21 to 27, antigen tests were positive for 24,748 people daily for Covid-19 on average.

The 27 people who died over the past 24 hours were aged from 43 to 100 years.

Bangkok had six deaths and there were four in the adjacent provinces of Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani and Nakhon Pathom.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had three more deaths - in Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao and Rayong.

The North reported four deaths - two in Phitchit and one each in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

The Northeast saw eight more coronavirus-related fatalities - in Chaiyaphum, Udon Thani, Roi Et, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Sakon Nakhon, Yasothon and Mukdahan.

The South had two - in Surat Thani and Krabi.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,648,679 Covid-19 cases, including 2,425,244 this year, with 4,600,945 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,275 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,577 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 438,618 in 24 hours to 606.55 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,279 to 6.49 million.

The United States had the most cases at 96.09 million, up 30,148, and the most deaths at 1.07 million, up 112.
