97 cases not cracked, cop suspended for negligence in Ghaziabad

GHAZIABAD: A sub-inspector was suspended for negligence of duty by Ghaziabad superintendent of police Muniraj G on Saturday.

A senior police officer said SI Amit Kumar was in-charge of investigating nearly 97 cases, including crimes against women and children. However, he had failed to solve the cases even after being given a strict warning.

Kumar is posted at the Vijay Nagar police station and at least 97 cases were lodged under his area of jurisdiction in two years, 2020 and 2021.

Muniraj G said that on Friday, when the pending cases’ file of the SI was checked and no satisfactory answer was provided on the pendency, an inquiry was done, in which negligence of the SI was found.

“Based on the report, he was suspended and further action will be taken against him after a departmental enquiry,” the SSP said.

A senior police officer said that the SSP is checking the cases from 2020 to 2021, how many cases were taken by the sub-inspector for investigation and how many he solved, as well as what happened to the rest of the pending cases.

The officer added that the SSP has made a list of 25 more police officers, whose rate in solving cases is very low and who are currently under the radar of the chief police officer.

An investigation against them is also under process and more suspensions will come in future.
