95 jobs created at business park on Second World War base

The developers of a north Leicestershire business park on a former Second World War base say all the units are now let, with 95 jobs already created.

The Wymeswold Business Quarter is being built next to the existing Wymeswold Industrial Estate, on the site of a former officer’s mess that was once part of a military airfield. There are plans to name buildings after some of the important figures that were stationed there during the war.

The final unit has now been sold to Fleet Auction Group, which is based 15 miles away in Coalville. Work on the unit, which is one of 20 there, will be completed early next year.

A spokesman for developer The Prince Group said: “With all units now sold or let, over 95 local jobs have been created.

“This will benefit the local economy and help to reduce the commuting times of those who work at the business park – as most of the business owners and their employees live within a 5 mile radius.”

He said they had included a number of incentives to reduce the environmental impact of the development, including a green travel plan, ride to work scheme and free bus passes.

The land is part of the Prestwold Estate which is managed by Loughborough property consultancy Mather Jamie. Mather Jamie came up with the idea for the business quarter and acted as project manager to get planning permission, commission construction and then promote the units for sale and lease.

Geoff Prince, managing director of the Prince Group, said “We have a long standing relationship with Mather Jamie and always value their advice and guidance which on this occasion has helped The Prince Group deliver and create something that will benefit businesses and create local employment.”

A planned second phase could create 21 units and 80-100 more jobs.

Mather Jamie is working with consultants Pegasus Group, Golby & Luck and Gordon White Hood on a planning application. If approved, construction would begin next spring and those units would be available to let or buy early in 2024.
