94-year-old care home resident in Caerphilly dies with coronavirus

A nursing home resident died after testing positive for coronavirus.

William John Bodman was a retired steel worker and underground coal miner.

The 94-year-old was pronounced dead at Ynysddu Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant, Ynysddu, Caerphilly, on April 14, 2020.

An inquest into Mr Bodman’s death was opened at Gwent Coroners’ Court on Tuesday.

Coroners’ court officer Paul Richardson told the court Mr Bodman’s cause of death was given as coronavirus contributed to by pneumoconiosis. Mr Richardson said there are no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement.

Senior coroner Caroline Saunders said a full inquest would be held into Mr Bodman’s death as there is evidence his death was contributed to by industrial injury.

An inquest will be held on April 27, 2021.
