920 homes, school and shopping centre to be built in Bristol

Hundreds of new homes are going to be built in Bristol along with a school, nursery, shopping centre, community hub and link road.

The project will see 920 properties built as part of the 2,700-home residential community being developed at Harry Stoke, according to Business Live.

Housebuilding company Crest Nicholson and housing association Sovereign have signed a £229million deal to carry out the work, which will start this month and take around seven years to complete.

The first phase of the project is expected to be finished by autumn 2019, with residents moving in shortly after.

Around 42 per cent of the development will be affordable housing and additional intermediate housing as well as 106 extra grant-funded intermediate homes available for shared ownership or affordable rent.

These homes will be one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom properties.

Sovereign has agreed to buy up 376 of the affordable homes that will be built as part of the project.

Chris Tinker, interim chief executive of Crest Nicholson, told Business Live: “The combination of Crest’s major project and housing delivery skills and Sovereign’s commitment to acquiring and managing the new affordable and intermediate homes will enable us to accelerate the delivery of quality new homes at Harry Stoke and to meet the housing need in this fast-growing part of Bristol.”

Andrew Ball, development director at Crest Nicholson South West, said: “Harry Stoke’s strategic location, abutting Bristol Parkway station on the London to Cardiff trainline makes it an attractive proposition for people working in both capitals.”

Crest Nicholson and Sovereign Housing Association worked together previously on a development on the Harbourside.

Tom Titherington, executive director development and commercial for Sovereign, added: “This is also quite a milestone for us, as this well-designed, quality development will bring the number of much-needed affordable houses that we’re delivering in the Bristol region over the next few years to more than 1,000.”
