911 call from shooting of ex-Giants QB Anthony Wright: ‘He’s fading’

Former New York Giants quarterback Anthony Wright very nearly lost his life July 1 after being shot multiple times following a domestic dispute with the father of his girlfriend’s child.

“After speaking with witnesses on the scene it was determined that Mr. Wright got into a verbal altercation with his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend,” a police release said at the time, via Yahoo Sports. “This altercation began when the ex showed up to drop off his daughter. An argument ensued and shots were fired.”

William Hooker Jr. was taken into custody days later and charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

TMZ Sports has managed to uncover a harrowing 911 call from the scene that details just how dire the situation and how close Wright came to dying from his injuries.

“He’s breathing, but he’s fading,” the caller tells the 911 operator. “He got shot right in the chest and in the back. Two shots.

“He walked up to him and pointed the gun right at him then and ran off.”

Hooker is being held in a North Carolina jail on a $1 million bond.

Wright was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1999. He later joined the Dallas Cowboys (2000-2001), Baltimore Ravens (2002-2005) and Cincinnati Bengals (2006) before landing with the Giants in 2007.

With Big Blue, Wright served in a backup role alongside Jared Lorenzen, who died at age 38 on July 3, earning a Super Bowl XLII ring.
