90s pop act 5ive are switching on Hamilton's Xmas lights this Saturday

Hundreds of people are expected to descend on Hamilton this Saturday as the town’s Christmas lights are switched on.

The festive event is always popular but with chart-toppers 5ive – currently a three-piece act – taking to the stage at Castle Street it looks set to be bigger and better than ever before.

The lads sold millions of records in the late 1990s and early 2000s, getting to number one on the singles chart three times. They still have a huge fan following.

The family fun, on Saturday, November 23, will kick off at 2pm, leading up to the headline act singing live on the big stage from 5pm.

Hamilton Business Improvement District (BID) are bringing them to the town for the festive switch-on.

Previous years have seen 90’s Irish chart-toppers B*Witched, pop groups S Club and Atomic Kitten and XFactor twins Jedward take to the stage to entertain the Christmas revellers.

And BID manager Gareth Walker told the Advertiser: “Following the large crowds attracted to the town in recent years for S Club, B*witched, Jedward and last year’s headliners Atomic Kitten, Hamilton is sure to be buzzing once again on Saturday, November 23.”

This year, a giant snow globe will also be at the event and people can jump inside it to get their pictures taken.

And Gareth added: “We will have the traditional carnival attractions in Townhead Street, and this year we will be bringing additional entertainment to the top cross from 10am until 4pm.

“We will have a stage area with performances from the Jersey Tones and a free snow globe attraction will be available for shoppers to take their own photos. It’s not to be missed.”
