90-year-old patient thanks Royal Liverpool Hospital nurses in most beautiful way

A 90-year-old patient thanked nurses at the Royal Liverpool Hospital in the sweetest way - by writing them a poem.

Robert Stevens sent nurses the poem, which they then shared on Twitter after it "made their day".

In the poem, which looked like it might be typewritten, he wrote:

"Not too busy, be it day or night to hold a hand or whisper good night.

"You walk the wards from dusk into dawn.

"A nurse is not made, a nurse must be born."

Sharing the poem on Twitter, the Royal Liverpool Hospital wrote: "Yesterday we received this beautiful poem from Robert, 90.

"We called him to thank him and he told us to throw it away if we wanted; not a chance. We assured him that this simple ode will make the day of many of the special people that are NHS staff."

The post has since received thousands of likes, with hundreds commenting on the kind gesture.

One wrote: "Perfect - a brilliant thank you to all who work in the NHS - doctors, nurses, porters, chefs, admin and everyone else.

"Thank you from a grateful nation."

Meanwhile another wrote: "It is a lovely poem and so true."
