A 9-year-old girl was in good condition after being hit by a vehicle Monday morning near an elementary school in Roseland on the Far South Side.

The girl was walking with her older sister in a crosswalk when a driver rolled slowly into the 9-year-old and “bumped her on the leg,” Chicago police spokeswoman Sally Bown said.

The crash happened about 7:30 a.m. in the 10900 block of South Wentworth Avenue, within a block of Mildred Lavisso Elementary School, Bown said.

The girl was taken in good condition to Roseland Community Hospital, a Chicago Fire Dept. spokesman said. Bown said the girl was “smiling” when officers arrived.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and was cited by police for hitting a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Bown said.

A crossing guard was on the other side of the street when the crash happened, Bown said.

About an hour earlier, a 14-year-old girl was hit and seriously injured by a vehicle near Midway Airport.
